It is the most wonderful and magical when having a little life growing inside your body. Therefore, it is very important to make sure you, moms-to-be, have the best lifestyle quality because it will impact on your pregnancy.

Here are some helpful lifestyle tips:

1. Get regular gentle exercise such as moderate to low impact activities like walking, swimming, or yoga.  Avoid exercises that involve bouncing, ball sports, martial arts, or the risk of falling.  If you attend any form of exercise class be sure to inform your instructor as soon as you know you are pregnant.

2. Do pelvic floor exercises daily as they can strengthen the pelvic muscles.  When you learn how to activate these muscles, you also gain an awareness of how to relax them.  Strengthening them can also create better elasticity, this can greatly assist with your childbirth experience and potentially reduce the risk of tears.  If you are not sure how to do them check with your local healthcare practitioner.

3. If you experience any discomfort, dizziness, or abnormal discharge, stop exercising immediately and contact your healthcare professional

4. Get regular pelvic adjustments from a qualified chiropractor, this will assist any pelvic pain and help with prenatal and postnatal mobility.

5. Exercising rather than dieting is the best way to slim down and regain muscle tone after your baby is born .

6. Exposure to sunlight is important for the production of vitamin D.  Try to get 20-30 minutes exposure each day.  Most people will obtain this by carrying our normal daily activities such as hanging the washing or walking to the corner ship.  Avoid the hotter times of the day (between 10am and 3pm ) and avoid over-exposure the the sun.

7. Avoid exposure to chemicals including harsh cleaning products and toxic garden products.

8. Avoid cigarette smoke.  Do not allow people to smoke anywhere around you.

9. Have plenty of relaxation and rest.  Do not push yourself when you feel tired.  Having regular acupuncture can assist a deeper sense of relaxation and restoring the body’s functional energy levels.  Meditation and breathing exercises can assist balancing out the nervous system response to stress.

10. Be excited, happy and most of all enjoy your pregnancy.
